The Brentwood Outdoor Pursuits ‘Adventure’ Summer Camp will be five action packed days of fun on the waters, trails and in the forests of Southern Vancouver Island. Campers will learn activity-specific skills as well as be educated about safety as they pursue their adventures.
Built on the bones of the successful Outdoor Pursuits ‘Adventure’ program run during the school year, the summer camp will allow newcomers to these activities to gain a strong start, as well as provide a challenge for students who already have experience. The camp will take full advantage of the waterfront location of the Brentwood campus.
Although this is primarily a day camp, students will participate in an overnight kayak camping trip over the last two days which will allow them to put what they have learned into practice. All specialized equipment (including life jackets, boats, paddles and camping equipment) will be provided to campers, who are expected to arrive each day equipped with their own personal clothing (see list).
In order to ensure a high degree of supervision and safety, this camp requires a minimum of 8 campers and has a maximum of 15 for each week.
All participants will perform a swim test on the first day and must be able to meet or exceed the Lifesaving Society’s swim to survive standard (roll in entry, tread water 1 minute, swim 50 meters).
